Alternative Therapies or Complementary Medicine are alternative terms used to describe treatments and practices that are not typically utilized in conventional Western medicine. The conventional medical system refers to the standard care that is provided to patients by medical doctors (MD), doctors of osteopathy (DO), as well as other health professionals such as nurses, psychologists, and physical therapists. Practitioners of alternative therapies or complementary medicine may employ various techniques such as herbal remedies, acupuncture, chiropractic medicine, yoga, biofeedback, hypnosis, or homeopathy to treat patients outside of the standard care system.
